ciCLEvia Central was the second of four events for the Summer 2017 Open Street Series! This route brought ciCLEvia into the Central neighborhood, closing 1 mile of Community College/Quincy Avenue, opening the street to people powered movement. The route began in front of Friendly Inn at Unwin Road, and continued on to East 24th Street!
This vibrant event was made a reality with the help of our partners: The YMCA, Sisters of Charity Foundation, Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland of Ward 5, Cuyahoga Community College, HIP-Cuyahoga, Cleveland Central Promise Neighborhood, Campus District, Care Alliance, Burton, Bell, Carr, and the community as a whole!
CiCLEvia Central had five hubs along its route, each with unique programming and activities for residents of all ages and abilities to enjoy. The hubs included: Health and Safety, Ultimate Recess, Arts and Culture, Stokes Celebration, and Family Reunion.
The event drew around 3,000 people throughout the day to experience the uniqueness of Central and play in car-free streets. WIth over 20 exhibitor tables, 5 art specific activities, live music, safety demonstrations, food, 5 instructor-led fitness opportunities, bike repairs, and protected bike lane infrastructure, and games along the entire street, the day was a huge success. Participants of all ages and backgrounds came out and found fun, healthy ways to use their neighborhood streets!
